Ground Mounted Solar Arrays

Rooftop mounted solar energy systems continue to be a preferred and economical way to go solar. However, many rooftops are not ideally situated to maximize the power production of the system because of shade or orientation.

Where unshaded space is available, Ground Mounted Solar Arrays can be optimally oriented to make maximum use of the site solar potential and provide larger amounts of power than similarly-sized rooftop installations — frequently up to 20% or more.

More Than One Way to Anchor Your Arrays

Ground-mounted solar systems are anchored to the ground and hold a large number of stacked panels, often two but sometimes three or four panels high. Rails support the rectangular panels in either landscape or portrait orientation

Ground-mounted systems don’t always have to penetrate into the earth. Arrays can be mounted on ballasts that sit on the ground using a similar concept to flat roof mounting. Typically, concrete molded blocks hold the system in place. These can be lowered by crane or poured into molds in place.

Solar energy systems with commercial-scale battery storage reduce the need for utility grid electricity during non-productive solar hours – saving on the utility bill for kWh (kilowatt-hours) used.

For business and institutions with high electric bills, this can make the economics for large-scale solar systems on buildings, car parks, ground mounted systems (or any combination of these) very attractive.

♦ By Reducing the Demand Charge

Many businesses with high electricity use see a significant portion of their utility bill charged as “Demand Charges”. Using their own solar electricity reduces the charges for kWh used — but does not effect their demand charges. This is because Demand Charges are based on a measured “Peak Load” which is then applied to all of the electricity used during the billing period.
